BLOG: Dear Zoo
Animal Fans of Ulverston- Don’t miss this!
If you are a fan of the classic children’s book, Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell, you don’t want to miss a chance to see the live version. Transforming a short story into a feature-length stage performance is a difficult task, but this play does it well. You’ll find the play to be a faithful and fun recreation of the original.
At 55 minutes long, the show is the perfect length for young children aged 2-6, and there is no interval so the momentum doesn’t slow down throughout. The play follows the story of the lift-the flap book, about a boy who writes to a zoo to ask for a pet. This leads to all kinds of shenanigans as the various pets that arrive in boxes from the zoo are too tall, too naughty, or too scary! The animals are all performed by puppetry, or members of the cast. I won’t ruin the surprise, but let’s just say that the boy does get the perfect pet in the end.
The book is brought to life with great props and performances. The play is also a musical, and this goes hand in hand with the audience participation to make an excellent experience for fans and newcomers alike.

The play will be on Saturday the 9th at 1:30pm and 3:30pm and Sunday the 10th of February at 11am and 2pm, tickets cost £14, or £50 for a family of four.
