CLASSICAL CONNECTIONS – ROYAL NORTHERN SINFONIA

SUNDAY 9 JUNE 7:30PM | CORONATION HALL – Tickets: £3 – £25

ROYAL NORTHERN SINFONIA
JONATHAN BLOXHAM  CONDUCTOR
ANTHONY HEWITT PIANO

UIMF are delighted to continue their collaboration with The Royal Northern Sinfonia, who this season celebrate their sixtieth birthday, in a programme with strong connections between each composer.
Beethoven regarded Mozart’s music with awe, and although they met only once, Mozart had predicted a great future for Beethoven. The influence of Mozart’s Concerto in C minor K. 491 on Beethoven’s third concerto in the same key is particularly strong.
However it is the uniquely expansive beauty of the slow movement of the Beethoven that was to have a lasting influence on the style of piano concerto slow movements to come – including Brahms.
The theme of Brahms’ Haydn Variations (also known as the Chorale St. Antoni) has been wrongly attributed to Haydn – a common mistake in publishing at this time. Haydn – the musical father of all three composers – wrote his Symphony ‘Le Matin’ under the patronage of the Esterhazys, part of a triptych of symphonies written to depict different times of the day.
